Three of the best: The stories behind Aniko Group’s marquee projects

Since launching in 2018, Aniko Group sure has made an impact on the South-East Queensland property landscape. From overseeing the region’s fastest-selling residential project to creating a Gold Coast home for the world’s most luxurious brands, the passionate team has compiled a portfolio that reinforces the company’s unrivalled reputation for innovation, excellence and affordable luxury. As Aniko Group embraces the excitement of a new decade, founder and Managing Director George Mastrocostas shares personal insights into two of its most successful projects – and another that is set to transform one of the Gold Coast’s most exclusive suburbs.

    Three72 Marine, Labrador

“Luxurious resort-style living in an unrivalled waterfront location”

    – 108 units

    – Value $55 million

    – Sold out within six months of launch

    – Completed July 2019

    – A sophisticated contemporary design blends with a warm community feel and resort-style facilities – including gym, pool, children’s play area, pet-wash station, library and outdoor cinema – to create a haven for residents

George says: “As the first residential building we delivered under the Aniko Group badge, Three72 Marine will always hold a special place in my heart. The project marked a new chapter for myself and the staff who have been with me for many years.

“It was a rebirth and we took it as an opportunity to improve on the philosophy that would drive us. We questioned every aspect of what kind of company we wanted Aniko Group to be – what we design, how we build, the way we sell – and Three72 Marine saw our collective vision become a reality.

“The fact it became South-East Queensland’s fastest-selling residential project for 2018 – selling out in record time and months before completion – was a great achievement, but that feat was more special because it was a collaborative approach, not just one man’s vision. We saw it as our flagship product then and still do today. When we visit Three72 Marine with our families in 20 years, we want to say ‘It still looks as good today as the day we built it’ and celebrate it as where the Aniko Group journey began.”

    Ferry Road Showroom, Southport

“The Gold Coast’s new luxury motor showroom”

    – 1730sq m showroom atop 2010sq m basement parking and servicing area

    – Value $25 million

    – Completed late 2018

    – Home to luxury vehicles from Bentley and Maserati

    – Constructed on elevated site on high-profile Ferry Rd, with additional frontage on Brolga Ave

    – Design features include full-length glass frontage and curved elements that complement the graceful lines of some of the world’s most sought-after vehicles

George says: “Ferry Road Showroom was born because I have a passionate belief in the future of the Gold Coast. I strongly believed luxury brands such as Bentley and Maserati should not only have a presence in the city, but that Council and other authorities would get behind us to make it happen.

“I must admit I had absolutely no specific expertise in developing commercial property, let alone car showrooms. I love cars but never thought I’d be involved in this kind of project. Then I met a friend for coffee and explored the opportunity to bring these luxury brands to the Gold Coast. They could see a huge portion of buyers at their Brisbane showroom were actually Gold Coasters.

“They not only wanted a presence in the city but to build something that was state-of-the-art. They didn’t know how to do that and that’s where Aniko Group rose to the challenge. We wanted to create something unique but, most importantly, we wanted to do it for the Gold Coast. The fact two brands as esteemed as Bentley and Maserati have committed to long-term leases at the Ferry Road Showroom is a massive vote of confidence in the city.”

No. 1 Grant Avenue, Hope Island

“The long-awaited answer to perfectly balanced waterfront living”

    – 210 apartments

    – Two captivating buildings – seven storeys and nine storeys

    – Value $140 million

    – Construction started late 2019

    – Completion due mid-2020 (Stage 1) and early 2021 (Stage 2)

    – Designed to seamlessly connect with its surroundings, the project features sweeping floor-to-ceiling windows, open flow-through layouts, a crystal clear swimming pool, a state-of-the-art gym and offers one of the Gold Coast’s last opportunity to access a bridge free marina.

George says: “I live at the northern end of the Gold Coast and believe this beautiful, waterfront enclave of Hope Island was undervalued. It’s nestled between some of the most exclusive suburbs in the city such as Sanctuary Cove, Paradise Point and Sovereign Islands and for many years remained a sleeper suburb.

“We took a risk when we bought the land a few years ago, purchasing what we call three ‘super sites’ with the ability to accommodate a few hundred residences. With a huge wave of infrastructure being done in the area, we thought it was a great place to invest and started the same process we did with Three72 Marine by analysing the market to decide what we should build and how we should do it.

“It made sense that we bring Aniko Group’s affordable luxury to Hope Island and since we bought the land, there has been a lot of positive news about the area. With the opening of its new town centre, the suburb is going through a complete rejuvenation that has inspired a new wave of development. We are so excited to be playing a part in helping create a new Hope Island.
