    TOWERING PLANS FOR ISLAND SUBURB

    PRESS: GOLD COAST BULLETIN

A PROLIFIC Gold Coast developer wants to build a new luxury residential tower in the heart of Chevron Island.

Aniko Group has bought a 1518sg m site on Weemala St, with plans to replace three residential and unit buildings with a “premiere development”.

The developer has spent more than $500m on new towers in Hope Island in the past two years and it comes just days after it sold out its $125m Athena Residences project.

Aniko managing director George Mastrocostos said the new tower would be designed to “fit in” with the enclave.

“We are taking a different approach to Chevron Island in keeping with the community fabric of the island suburb.’ he said.

“We are looking forward to transforming this site into a residential offering that will appeal to a broad range of buyers.

“Our aim is to create large living spaces and deliver a range of superb resident amenities that align with the convenience of the Chevron Island location.

No details about the height or cost of the tower have been revealed.

Plus Architecture has been engaged to design it.

More than 20 towers have been proposed for the island in the past seven years, but only a handful have been built.

With several now under construction, Chevron Island residents have called for the Gold Coast City Council to develop a masterplan for the area and widen the traffic bridges to reduce the congestion which already bring the Thomas Dr thoroughfare to a halt.
